A BRIEF HISTORY OF SWAN CREEK BAPTIST CHURCH
Swan Creek Baptist is a result of a mission of the First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant. The first church building was a two-room log house. Brother Lowell Knupp was the first part-time preacher here.
In 1959 land was donated for what is now the present location of the church.
In 1965 under the leadership of Brother Addis Potts; the mission was organized as a church with 39 charter members. Brother Addis Potts was the first full-time preacher for Swan Creek.
In the early 1980’s it was decided that it was time for a new bigger building. So work was started on this. The present building was built in 3 different stages. Starting with the sanctuary, then the fellowship hall with Sunday school rooms. Then later the preacher’s study/apartment was built and more Sunday school rooms.
The new santuary was completed in 2002. It will seat about 250. The current pastor is Bro. Chris Gowen who has been with the church since October, 1998.
